The BC Humanist Association has written to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney asking him to back his recent comments on Christian Nationalism with action.
At a recent announcement, the Prime Minister spoke in French about a battle beginning between Christian Nationalism and what he termed Canadian "civic nationalism." He framed the latter around respect for diversity and human rights.
In response, BCHA Executive Director Ian Bushfield wrote to the Prime Minister expressing appreciation for the speech and his recognition of the nonreligious. Bushfield also called for the Government to take action to back up the Prime Minister's words. The BCHA provided a list of tangible reforms to remove structural religious privilege from the country's Income Tax Act, Criminal Code and public symbolism.
The BCHA will continue to advocate for the protection of human rights and for governments to observe their duty of religious neutrality.
