On April 15, 2015, the Supreme Court of Canada delivered its unanimous verdict: Prayers at municipal council meetings are unconstitutional.
Despite this decision, the BCHA has documented dozens of examples of local governments continuing to include prayers in their regular and inaugural council meetings across Canada. Following our efforts, many of these communities agreed to cease the practice.
In recognition of the tenth anniversary of the decision, we're asking every local government to proclaim April 15, 2025, Religious Neutrality Day.
Enter your address below to email your Mayor and Council asking them to make the proclamation.
Proclamations
If your community has issued a Religious Neutrality Day proclamation, please email it to us and we'll post a copy of it here.
