Kamloops City Council is set to give a $35,620 tax break to an unregulated, faith-based, anti-choice pregnancy centre.
Hopewell Clinic is set to receive three years of property tax exemptions worth approximately $12,000 annually, if Council doesn't amend its proposed bylaw later this month.
Hopewell does not offer the comprehensive care that a real reproductive health clinic would. They do not provide contraception, PEP/PrEP, abortions, or even refer for abortions. Additionally, Hopewell is affiliated with national anti-choice organizations.
Your property taxes go up to pay for these exemptions.
Kamloops is one of very few cities in British Columbia that gives this kind of tax break to anti-choice clinics. It is time Council stop supporting the spread of misinformation and harm.

Unregulated pregnancy centres, like Hopewell Clinic (formerly Pregnancy Care Centre Society of Kamloops), perpetuate an extreme religious, anti-choice agenda. These kinds of organizations have been shown to promote misinformation in an effort to dissuade pregnant people from understanding their choices and their rights.
Tax exemptions for these groups force local homeowners and businesses to subsidize their mission.
We call on Kamloops City Council to cancel the permissive tax exemption for Hopewell Clinic.
