Our next Humanist Cafe topic will be TRUMPISM. The Cafe will be held at 7 pm Wednesday the 15th of May at New Horizons. Robert Light, our VSHA President, will give a concise talk on the topic followed by general discussion.
A huge US Navy carrier assault force is on its way to the Persian Gulf. President Trump's polls are dropping as his scandals pile high up threatening to topple him from power. What can he do? Play the game of princes and provoke a holy war. Consider his actions in the past as well. The Paris Accord on Climate Change, the nuclear deal with Iran, the ABMTreaty with Russia, a vast expansion of military spending, and now a confrontation with Iran.
How did we get here? America once was the lighted city on a hill. A beacon of hope, freedom, and prosperity. Never in its long history has such an extreme and erratic faction ruled from the White House. We see fascism within the greatest democracy.
Authoritarianism is on the rise here and there around the world. How can we stop it? Where are we winning? Humanism has played a great part in the past challenging authority and authoritarianism. What must we do? What can we do?
The Victoria Secular Humanist Association's Humanist Café is a moderated discussion held every first and third Wednesday of the month 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the James Bay New Horizons Center. 234 Menzies St.
We welcome guests, so if you’re curious come to one of our events!
