With a lot of discussion about "SOGI" in BC schools, we've invited two educators behind the "Sex Ed Is Our Right" campaign to talk about the importance of sexual health, sexual orientation and gender identity education in BC schools. We'll be welcoming Ghada from YouthCo HIV & Hep C Society and Darren from the Community-Based Research Centre for Gay Men's Health.
All students, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or ability have the right to learn what they need in order to make safer, informed choices. Likewise, the education and information students receive must also reflect that diversity.
From SOGI 123:
There is no "SOGI curriculum"; SOGI is a thread that can be addressed throughout many subjects and topics. Teachers choosing to address SOGI in the curriculum is NOT about students developing a particular set of beliefs around sexual orientation and gender identity. It is about building understanding of the diverse society that we live in and learning to treat each other with dignity and respect regardless of our differences.
All are welcome to attend. Join us at 10 am for BYO coffee, tea, and socializing. At 10:30 am we start our presentation and discuss topics of interest to our members.
The BC Humanist Association was formed in 1984 and we have a regular attendance of over 30 people at our Sunday meetings.
