Sunday Meeting: Towards a Humanist politics - Owen Jones Holyoake Lecture

As many members will be at the Vancouver Pride Parade, we will be watching a video for this meeting.

Award-winning author, columnist, and political activist Owen Jones delivered the British Humanist Association (BHA) (now Humanists UK) Holyoake Lecture 2016 in Manchester on October 18th. Acknowledging both strong disillusionment with politics and the increasingly polarized and fractious nature of political debate, Owen explored whether or not it is possible to advance a humanist politics capable of meeting today’s ethical challenges.

Putting aside traditional notions of ‘left’ and ‘right’, Owen’s Holyoake Lecture asks whether a more humanist model of addressing issues like social cohesion, international cooperation, and new ethical dilemmas posed by advances in science, can at last restore trust in politics.

All are welcome to attend. Join us at 10 am for BYO coffee, tea, and socializing. At 10:30 am we start our presentation and discuss topics of interest to our members.

The BC Humanist Association was formed in 1984 and we have a regular attendance of over 30 people at our Sunday meetings.
