Sunday Meeting- Ryan Scrivens - Understanding Right-Wing Extremism in Canada

Understanding Right-Wing Extremism in Canada

Despite the Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s (CSIS) recent concern with the growing threat from right-wing extremists (RWE) nationwide, we have a limited understanding of their ideologies and activities in Canada. Drawing on a three-year study involving interviews with Canadian law enforcement officials, community organizations, and right-wing activists, this presentation will paint a picture of the contemporary RWE movement in Canada, providing an in-depth look at its membership, distribution, and activities. A number of counter-extremism initiatives will also be described, with an emphasis on how the strengths and weaknesses of the groups themselves can be exploited as a means of debilitating them.

All are welcome to attend. Join us at 10 am for BYO coffee, tea, and socializing. At 10:30 am we start our presentation and discuss topics of interest to our members.

The BC Humanist Association was formed in 1984 and we have a regular attendance of over 30 people at our Sunday meetings.
