While we intended to watch a new TED talk by Jonathon Haidt this past Sunday, technical difficulties forced us to switch in a video of Mythbusters Host Adam Savage. The following summary is provided by Steve Grice.
Our video this morning was the first part of a talk by Adam Savage. His topic was the frequency failures, even in the most successful. Adam described some of his own failures in his career as a special effects designer.
In our discussion session after, we talked about how common failures really are -- even in the lives of very successful people. For example, successful experiments reported in science journals are often preceded by failed experiments -- which often go unreported. Similarly, most business start-ups actually fail. But, usually, we notice only the successes.
