Freethinkers often pride themselves on their independence and many are content to hold their beliefs in private; however, by joining and supporting the British Columbia Humanist Association, you can help promote a society based on the humanist values of reason, freethought, tolerance, and compassion.
In British Columbia, nearly two-in-five people identify as non-religious in the census, yet few are willing to publicly declare their atheism and agnosticism. There is a stigma to atheism that leads to a fear of ostracism from religious relatives, co-workers, and peers. Many others retain some "spiritual" or New Age beliefs that are also founded on little evidence.
The BC Humanist Association is dedicated to promoting humanist values in society, and building a world where freethinkers are open and proud. By attending our events, purchasing a membership, or becoming a sustaining donor, you can help us fulfil our mission of building a post-religious humanist community.
If you support secular ethics and human rights, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual preference or ethnicity, your active participation in our group adds your voice to those working toward these ends. Our voice is stronger united than divided.
Finally, by joining our community, you gain a support network that will be there with you in times of joy, celebration, grief, and loss. We are continually expanding our programming to continue to support our members.
